Whether you’re  a beginner or expert with an interest in Bitcoin, Ethereum or other blockchain projects, the Blockchain Hackathon on March 23 and 24 is an event you don’t want to miss. It’s being offered in partnership by the City of Barrie, BlockHub and Georgian’s Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre.

The two-day event will start at the Five Points Theatre at 5 p.m. with dinner, followed by a keynote address by filmmaker-turned-coder Niloo Ravaei.

Ravaei has helped FinTech startups in Toronto and San Francisco scale into some of the biggest players in the space. At Blockgeeks – an online education platform for developing blockchain engineering talent – she works with some of the best blockchain companies in the world to create education programs for blockchain engineers. Ravaei is particularly interested in the humanitarian applications of blockchain, and helps Toronto-based charities use technology to streamline their operations.

All-day brainstorming and teamwork sessions will follow on March 24 at Georgian’s Barrie Campus. Participants will form teams and undertake a challenge related to blockchain technology. Each team will present their solution to a panel of judges with over $5,000 in prizes up for grabs. Dinner and a networking event will follow.

All participants will receive complimentary codes to access Blockgeeks’ customized learning courses.

The event takes place on March 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. and March 24 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. There’s a $25 fee to register, but it will be refunded with full attendance.

Participants can register online or by emailing jenna.green@georgiancollege.ca
