Following the departure of Logan Kanapathi, Ward 7 Councillor, Markham City Council have appointed Khalid Usman to the position until Nov 30, the end of the current term.

The position became available after former Councillor Logan Kanapathi, was elected as MPP Markham-Thornhill. According to Provincial legislation and Markham Council’s Vacancy Policy, the seat was announced vacant June 26 by council.

Usman held the post in two previous terms running from 1998 to 2006 and ran in the 2014 Municipal Election when he lost to Kanapathi.

Usman also serves on Markham’s Race Relations Committee, the York Region Police Services Board, and is a founding director of the Canadian Federation of Intercultural Friendship (CFIF).
