Downtown Barrie has lots going on this Canada Day party, hosted by the city and partnered with Promenade Days. The day features family activities and vendors in Heritage Park and live entertainment, partly funded by the federal government and Tim Hortons.

Canadian Country Music star Dan Davidson, award-winning Indigenous hip‐hop artist Plex, Canadian singer-songwriters Aleah Baillargeon and Joelle, and Barrie’s Emerging Musicians will grace the Promemade Days stage.

Local dignitaries will also be on hand for a birthday cake-cutting ceremony.

Attendees will also be treated to free zumba classes, a boot camp and an aerial arts demonstration. TELUS is also providing free face-painting, during the festivities that include Canadian wildlife displays, inflatables, vendors and games from 1 – 9PM.

New this year is as well, is a pop-up park at the bottom of Owen Street.

Come Alive Outside, a partnered project between the city, the downtown Barrie BIA, Landscape Ontario and the National Sod Growers Association, brings the Green Street Challenge highlighting outdoor play.

Kids, and parents alike, will be able to play giant chess, Jenga and checkers on a giant life sized outdoor board Saturday/Sunday.

A fireworks show over Kempenfelt Bay starts at 10 PM.

The weekend kicks off with the Meridian Place Grand Opening June 29 at 5 PM, hosted by the Downtown Barrie BIA and the City of Barrie.

Markham is welcoming over 20,000 visitors to the city throughout the day in celebration of our nations 151st. Activities include all ages with a ceremony welcoming 50 new citizens to Markham (and Canada) at 8 AM in the Civic Centre Council Chamber.

A Sold Out Seniors’ Luncheon celebrating the contributions of seniors to the community will follow at Le Parc Banquet Hall, 8432 Leslie Street, at 11:45 AM

After that is the People’s Parade at 4 PM running along McCowan Road and Hwy 7 all the way to Milne Dam Conservation Park. It is there that celebrations will reach a head with live entertainment, kids’ activities, food trucks and a fireworks display at around 10 PM.

Mississauga will take in Canada’s 151st at Celebration Square with a Main Stage line up of performances, as follows:

  • MAGIC!, the JUNO Award-winning band from Mississauga known for international hit “Rude”
  • Allie X, Canadian singer-songwriter
  • Kid Koala, Canada’s world-famous scratch DJ
  • Valley, a Mississauga-based pop band
  • Ammoye, a four-time JUNO nominated Reggae songstress
  • William Prince, a JUNO award winning Folk artist

Tim Hortons presents the fireworks display at 10:05 p.m. preceded by an official  citizenship ceremony with Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Members of Council.

Event hosts include Antony Robart and Alan Carter of Global News, Tasha Kheiriddin of AM640 and ET Canada presenter, Sangita Patel.

Local events are also taking place in Malton, Port Credit, Streetsville, Churchill Meadows and the Living Arts Centre.
