Nearly 15 eateries in York Region, the majority of them in Markham, have been issued citations for violations under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

The citations are merely penalties for problematic practices, allowing the establishments to bring themselves back into compliance. All of the food establishments are still able to pass the health inspection examination.

Infractions faced by eateries in Markham, include lack of maintenance of floors, walls and unsanitary conditions in food handling areas. One was cited for failing to properly sanitize utensils in chlorine, while another for failing to prevent entry of rodents. J & J Swagat Convention Centre, at 415 Hood Rd.

Backyard Garden Restaurant, at 3636 Steeles Ave.

Fisherman Village, at 4500 Steeles Ave.

Xi’an Favourite Food, at 4300 Steeles Ave.

Fresh Everyday, at 4300 Steeles Ave.

Zhe Er Limited, at 8362 Kennedy Rd.

Thai One On, at 7750 Kennedy Rd.

Among the two establishments in Vaughan that were charged; one was for failing to use employees hand washing facility and the other to protect against food contamination. The establishments cited, are as follows:

Angelo’s Homestyle Family Restaurant, on 3300 Steeles Ave.

Com Pho The Ky, on 3232 Steeles Ave. W.

In Whitchurch-Stouffville, the St. Andrew’s East Golf & Country Club, on 14022 McCowan Rd. was charged with unclean floors in food handling area. while India Time, on 16775 Yonge St., in Newmarket, was charged with obstruction of a public health inspector during the inspection.
