The World Parkinson’s Program (WPP) Gala is returning to Markham for a second year in-a-row, following a successful run last year.
The WPP is a Markham-based, globally recognized charity which assists patients in Canada and internationally, by providing free medication and exercise programmes.
They hold fundraising events in support of their humanitarian efforts towards patients suffering around the world. The recently announced third annual gala which is taking place Friday, May 3rd 2019 at Crystal Fountain venue, a popular spot for high profile community events.
The WPP’s are hoping to surpass the $50,000 earned at last year’s event so that more patients can be provided with medication, treatment and supportive devices.
They also create and distribute educational materials to some of the most remote localities and in 20 different languages across the world.
- Each year, millions of Parkinson’s patients around the world are struggling without equipment, literature, medication or treatment.
- WPP has been providing canes, medication, treatment, walkers, wheelchairs to over 10,000 patients, worldwide, since 2014.
- The WPP, unlike any other Parkinson’s charity in the world, pair efforts in discovering a cause, cure and treatments for the disease with providing free medication and supplies, globally.
- Over 500 people attended the second annual gala in 2018 alongside local community leaders, dignitaries and politicians.
John Baumann, a U.S. attorney, motivational speaker, and author who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012, will be returning as keynote speaker. He has been filling up halls and auditoriums on both sides of the pond, and by sharing his personal journey with the degenerative disorder.
Thrillist listed comedian, Jeremy McLellan will be delivering a bit of humour in an otherwise serious setting, something as part of his social justice work.
